Cumann Naomh Bríde
Cumann Naomh Bríde is a youth club with a difference! Not only does the club engage in the usual pastimes that we associate with a youth club but it also teaches traditional music as an integral part of its activities.
Over the last number of years the club has held a worshop that includes music, sports, arts and crafts, walks in the woodlands and cooking in the beautiful setting of Avondale. It is a magical setting and the most wonderful place in the world to wake up in!
Several of the tunes in the collection were inspired by the activities of Cumann Naomh Bríde, including the first tune called "Where's me breakfast, I'm starving" because that is the most common refrain heard in Avondale in the morning!
We have plenty of craic between barbeques, board games, and girls applying make-up on both themselves and the lads!
Many of the clubs members are pupils in St Brigid's Schools in Cabinteely and one of the tunes on the CD, The Elves March I wrote especially for a sixth class in St Brigid's Boys School. They loved the tune and one of the boys, Diarmaid Malone wrote word to go with the tune.
